The 'Umbrella Plants' have been popular as houseplants for many years. They are very easy to grow and over time can make tall, impressive specimens - 6ft or more. Their glossy oval leaves (either green or variegated) are held on short stalks radiating from the centre and give rise to their common name. Site them in good light (but not too much direct sun) and in a reasonably warm room. Let the compost dry out between waterings and feed them fortnightly when in active growth.
