A big thank you to everyone who came to our 30th birthday celebrations and grand opening of our new Café extension on Sunday.
The sun was shining and Riverside has never looked better. We'd spent the past few weeks making sure that the whole garden centre was ready. The Café staff had been staring early and finishing late all week to prepare the food and we'd been decorating and setting up well before the doors opened on Sunday. Happily all our efforts were worth it with a great day of celebrations and a wonderful atmosphere in the early spring sunshine.
Steve Shaw, the only former member of the group who set up Riverside back in the late eighties still working at the garden centre, opened preceedings with a speech about how Riverside came into being, what it stands for and where we are today with our new deveopments. He also thanked those who have helped along the way including the all the people involved in the recent cafe, toilets and playground building.
Steve then introduced Mike Dilger, ecologist, television presenter and Riverside customer who entertained us all with his take on being a Riverside customer. He then officially opened the new Café extension by cutting the ribbon with a shiny new pair of Spear and Jackson shears.
Customers, guests and staff all then enjoyed a wonderful free buffet laid on by our Café staff accompanied by live music all afternoon. We hope you were there to join us.
