Your garden is more valuable than your realise!
Although spaces like parks and allotments are important, the thousands of front, back and community gardens within Greater Bedminster are even more crucial. Together these gardens make up around 15% of the 1750 acres (about two Ashton Court Estates) of BS3!
From the perspective of a blackbird or butterfly, gardens are perfect because of their diversity: a tree here, a pond there, berry bushes next door, and maybe a weed patch or log pile nearby to provide food or shelter during the winter.
Your garden (or even a window box) is already helping nature - but could it become even more wildlife friendly?
Why not join your neighbours in making Greater Bedminster, and our surrounding areas, as welcoming to wildlife as possible?
Right now, 99% of the local animal biomass consists of humans, dogs, and cats. The remaining 1% includes around 50 species of birds, 12-15 mammals, a few amphibians and reptiles, and lots of insects, spiders, and other small creatures. Many of these are under threat and could disappear in the coming years without our help.
There are also countless plants, from towering trees to tiny weeds, that depend on us. Many of these too will vanish if we don’t take action.
