Cottage Garden Roses
Posted By: Category: DesignA collection of roses, which have been bred to capture the best characteristics of both old shrub and modern bush varieties.
Typically, old fashioned shrub roses were famous for their fragrance and opulent blooms but sadly also often had a disappointing short flowering season (4-5 weeks in early summer). They were also often very large - too big for most modern gardens.
Rose breeder, most famously David Austin, addressed these issues by producing modern varieties that bring together the best characteristics of these old shrubs and modern hybrid teas and floribundas.
As a group, we are calling these 'Cottage Garden Roses', and typically, they will posses these characteristics:
- Superb frangrance
- Old fashioned forms to the flowers
- Repeatflowering
- A wide range of colours
- Outstanding disease resistance
- A compact habit
This year we can offer more than 25 varieties within the group (NB: availabilty dependant):
Rose 'Admiral', 'Aphrodite', 'Belle De Jour', 'Duchess of Cornwall', 'Eirene', 'Fruity Parfuma', 'Global Beauty', 'Lavendar Ice', 'Lovely Parfuma', 'Nostalgia', 'Perfect Harmony', 'Pink Martini', 'Pretty Parfuma', 'Princess Charlene of Monaco', 'Prince Jardinier', 'Pure Poetry', 'Rachel', 'Rene Goscinny', 'Royal Parfuma', 'Soul', 'Sweet Child of Mine', 'Twilight Zone'
